Netbooks are the latest in the line of portable compact personal computers. They are smaller than the notebook, which is a compact version of the laptop. In order to be the smallest computer available, the netbook is devoid of any optical drive and has reduced computing functions. It is usually equipped with Windows 7 Starter edition, USB ports, inbuilt Wi-Fi connector and 1GB RAM.

Most netbooks weight between 2 to 3 pounds and have smaller keyboards to reduce their size. This makes it easier for students to carry them around. Some models of the best netbook brands are also endowed with touch screen displays measuring 10.1 inches diagonally. The HD quality resolution of the display enhances the video quality on netbooks.

The most popular netbook brands are Asus, Acer, HP, Toshiba, Dell and Samsung. The latter may be more popular with products such as television and cell phone devices, but recently Samsung has come out with state of the art upgraded netbooks which are priced at competitive levels with the others.

Here is a list of some of the well known netbook brands used by computer users:

Asus Eee PC

Asus was the first to bring out the Eee netbooks way back in 2007. The Eee stands for Easy to Learn, Easy to Work and Easy to Play. Asus’s very own operating system Express Gate and its Super Hybrid Engine makes it a winner among its users.

Acer AO

Although Acer was not one of the first brands to come out with a netbook, the company spent its time doing quality research of customers who were using netbooks made by Asus and MSI. From this knowledge it was able to come up with superior designs and reasonably priced netbook models with the Acer Aspire One netbooks.

HP Mini

There is no doubt about the fact that netbooks designed by HP are one of the best in the market. Although it is priced a little higher than most of its competing brands, features such as the battery life and the large size keyboard make it worth buying an HP Mini notebook.

Dell Mini

One of the main reasons why Dell Mini remains one of the most popular netbook brands since its first netbook model came out is because of the Datasafe online backup feature. Added to that is the 12 inch screen of the Dell netbook which brings it at par with any other notebook.
